2nd day of MOI P1.

James

Today is the 2nd day of MOI P1.
it was quite in a chaos because we have to prepare a presentation
in less than an hour about design process. Although we wasted quite sometimes
on searching of computer, but i personally think that our information provided was sufficient.
Well, now we have understand what is a design process and how it helps us to make or plan things easier.
Presentation in class is quite useful as we are able to get advice and comment from lecturer and classmates that
allow us to improve our presentation skills. It also helped us in presenting our ideas to client in future.

i will share what we have learnt in class today.

>What is a Designer Role?
From my point of view, i personally think that designer have the responsibility to solve problem in a
innovative way that profit the user and social.

Now i will share my point of view and researches about design process

>What is a Design Process

-Discovery
The objective of the Discover stage is to act as a ‘phase of divergent thought’, where the designers and other project team members keep their perspectives wide to allow for a broad range of ideas and influences. In this stage of the design process, the company is asking a question, posing a hypothesis or identifying a problem by analysing market data, trends and other information sources.

Taking example of the creation of laptop. In the past, there is only computers and it is not portable. it is inconvenient for user that need to use the computer in the public as it is too bulky to carry around and it has to be operate with electricity. So this is the problem encountered by people.

-Define
At the Define stage, a combination of the ideas or directions identified during the Discover stage are analysed and synthesised into a brief with actionable tasks related to new and existing product or service development. The Define stage ends with a clear definition of the problem(s) and a plan for how to address this through a design-led product or service. In practice, the Define stage ends in a project go-ahead through corporate level sign-off.

As mention earlier in the discovery section on computer, people are facing using computer in the public. Now designer are finding possible solution to solve the problem.

-Develop

At the Develop stage the project has been taken through a formal sign-off, which has given the corporate and financial backing to the development of one or more concepts that have addressed the initial problem. This include creative techniques and methods such as brainstorming, visualisation, prototyping, testing and scenarios. The methods and working processes are in many cases similar to those during the Define stage, but are this time focussed on bringing the agreed product to fruition.

Now, the designer have to create prototypes of portable computer and looking for problems from the current product that they invented.

-Deliver
It will result in a product or service that successfully addresses the problem identified during the Discover stage. It will also include processes for feeding back lessons from the full design process to inform future projects, including methods, ways of working and relevant information.

Finally, the final product is out. But this does not mean it is totally ready for market as they have to get feedback on the product and improving the product.

This is what i have understand and learnt about design process for the 2nd day of class. With the knowledge enhanced from Wahidah and information shared by our classmate, i think i have understand well about the process and how it helps to solve problem. Wahidah has also shared a few website on design process and soon i will edit the post for the useful website.
